The Association of British Drivers is campaigning for a Fair Deal For Drivers.
![]() Axe The Tax In ballpark figures, the government takes about £50 billion a year from drivers and spends only a fraction of that — £8 billion — on us. Even enthusiasts for ‘green’ taxes have to admit that drivers are taxed through the nose — over five times the going rate for carbon dioxide emissions. With family budgets under pressure, ABD is running an AXE THE TAX campaign, in which we will be exposing the unfair tax burden and calling for a fairer tax regime. ABD calls for current and future governments to:

![]() Protect Our Privacy The Association of British Drivers is campaigning for a fair deal for the driver — and calls for measures to PROTECT OUR PRIVACY. The government is promoting road pricing in spite of massive public opposition. In a petition, 1.8 million people raised their concerns over privacy as well as cost. Road pricing systems on the drawing board would record drivers’ movements in detail, opening up disastrous possibilities for the disclosure or loss of our sensitive personal data. Surveys show that drivers don’t trust a government that wants to widely share or even sell our data. The government increasingly intends to record our journeys on all major roads using CCTV and Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) technology. Images will be retained on a National Vehicle Tracking Database — even though there is evidence that this indiscriminate surveillance is illegal. |
![]() Get Britain Moving The Association of British Drivers is campaigning for a fair deal for the driver, who pays several times over for using our roads. For far too long, there has been under-investment in roads, and misguided policies have actually removed road space and aggravated congestion. The government wants to further reduce road speeds and charge drivers more for the privilege of driving in congestion. ABD is pleased to support the Daily Express ‘Crusade’, and provide its own policies to GET BRITAIN MOVING:
